5 Most Romantic Things to Do in Paris

Paris is perhaps the most romantic city in the world, so in honor Valentines Day we’ve compiled a list of the most romantic things to do when visiting the city of lights. To enhance any of these experiences, simply add wine.

1. Get lost in the Louvre. One of the largest and most famous museums in the world is full of art and elaborate halls that are  made to get lost in (well, actually they were made as a palace, but you know what I mean). The dimly light halls add to the romantic ambiance as you try to pretend to discuss art history with your love. Go on a Wednesday night when the museum is open later and crowds are (relativity) sparse.

2. Visit the Palace of Versailles and The Gardens. The Palace of Versailles is pretty much what you’d expect; a gigantic palace with over-the-top interior designing.  The palace itself is fairly so-so, but the real gem of this 45 minute trip outside Paris are the endless gardens.  Rent a golf cart with your love and get lost among the miles of hedges, countless fountains, numerous mini palaces, hidden groves and tree lined paths.  It’s very romantic to think that just a few hundred years ago Marie Antoinette and Louise were getting down here (before she got beheaded…just don’t think about that). With cafes within the grounds, rent-able bikes and golf carts, it’s the perfect place to spend a blissful afternoon. paris-vers3.Find a Café and Enjoy the Parisian Sidewalk Scenes. This one is pretty self explanatory. Find a café/ restaurant with outdoor seating, order something off the menu that you have no idea what it is, order wine and/or champagne and people watch in the best city to do it. I’d recommend the famous Les Deux Magots in the fancy Saint Germain des Pres area.  Sure, it’s a bit pricey, but when you think about the famous clientele (try Hemingway and Picasso) that sat there, it’s worth it. There are few things more romantic then a Parisian sidewalk at night, you can’t help but to fall in love.

4. Dance the Night Away at Le Caveau de la Huchette. What’s more romantic then hearing french, sipping wine and listening to jazz? Nothing. That’s what.  Head to Le Caveau de le Huchette (5 Rue de la Huchette, 75005 Paris, France) in the Latin Quarter to hear amazing live french jazz bands.  This place rocks from head to toe.  First off, the interior used to be used for Freemasonry ceremonies, it’s in a pretty small old cave with dim lighting and an off the charts ambiance.  Secondly, there’s really good bands every night, like this is the go to spot for jazz in Paris. Thirdly, this place is full of locals and tourists alike. Get there when it opens cause it fills up within minutes. Fourthly, the dance floor is bumping with folks that actually know how to dance (read: no twerking here). Even if you don’t hit the dance floor, cozying up with your beau while the band preforms, the crowd dances and every lyric is spoken in the language of love is sure to be a memorable evening.

5. Add a Lock to the Love Lock Bridge.  Most European cities have one.  A landmark, bridge, or anything with wires where couples attached a lock to symbolize their love  with their names written on it, then throw the key in the water below.  However, the Parisian Love Lock Bridge is the most stunning.  The bridge is actually called the Pont de Artes and can be found near the Louvre and Latin Quarter. It’s tres romantic to add a lock to this iconic site and to think of the thousands of couple who stood there before you a did the same.

  • Thank you for the kind reply. Paris is the City of Love, and too many men propose on the overcrowded top of the Eiffel Tower… That’s why I help them to plan an experience more intimate, romantic and spectacular. Since 2006, I planned about 1200 elaborate marriage proposals, including, last year, the first ever marriage proposal… in space.
For your information, every year, 3 millions of couples travel to Paris mainly for “romantic reasons”… And yes, when you know where to go and what to do, Paris can really be the City of Love! 🙂

  • Nice suggestions, but if you want something even more spectacular and romantic to surprise your partner in Paris, I can suggest the 30 romantic surprises offered by my agency: a dove flying to the restaurant with a message of love, a dinner-cruise with champagne and 1000 red roses falling from the Pont des Arts, Cinderella’s carriage appearing at the Eiffel Tower with a magical glass slipper, or even four airplanes suddenly drawing in the Parisian sky a giant while heart. So many romantic things are possible in Paris!
